This top floor flat on Stamford Hill is situated inside a 1880 built Mansion on the main stretch heading north (A10). Set back from the main road and behind large Poplars the flat is a small, light flooded oasis inside this busy, orthodox Jewish neighbourhood.

Within only 10 weeks the place was stripped, re-wired, re-plubmed and all external walls thermally insulated and all windows were replaced with double glazed units.
The floor layout remains untouched as this property was originally designed as a flat and functions still perfectly well this way.

Some features were kept such as a few cornices and all doors and architraves; the fanlights above every internal door flood the place with natural light. Great views across Woodberry Downs and up to Alexandra Palace lend perspective outlooks which seems rare in period London properties.
Everything was designed by Michel & Anneka Schranz. The kitchen, the modern heart of a flat has been carefully designed in order to remain functional but also to feel comfortable and friendly.
A solid Douglas Fir was laid onto a soundproofed and levelled sub-floor and that tries the entire place together. Living on Douglas Fir offers warmth and softness to the touch and feel of the place.

The project turned out to be one of the fastest and most profound transformations for our studio without actually having done any structural changes.
